Metering

One of the critical keys to fuel efficiency is knowing how to maximize your engine's activity. And that means meters.

ENGINE TEMPERATURE

Engine temperature is the most critical element. The hotter an engine gets, the less efficient it becomes, throwing more and more of it's energy into producing heat (through friction) until the friction exceeds the engine power, and a catastrophic failure occurs.

The most important factor in regulating engine heat is oil - a material that lubricates, thus reducing friction.

As oil temperature heats, it begins to break down and loses is ability to lubricate.

Therefore, monitoring engine temperature is important in managing the engine's efficiency.

The engine on this bike is monitored in three ways: cylinder head temperature, oil temperature in the crankcase, and oil pressure.

Temperature in the crankcase and in the cylinder head are generally closely related. However, monitoring them separately is extremely valuable, because the further apart the two temperatures become, the greater the likelihood that a mechanical issue has occured... that oil is not being transferred to the head in the amount needed... which means in all likelihood the oil pump is failing.

So careful monitoring of the two different temperatures can warn of impending issues. And excessive heat buildup can be monitored and corrected by checking oil, or reducing rpm or load.

In additon, the bike's engine has a oil pressure warning light.

But the heart of the system that monitors the overall efficiency of the bike lies in the Veypor Motorcycle computer.
