From Mexico to Vancouver, Canada

SUMMER 2009

1700 miles and more.

Current route plan has changed. The initial route was to run from Nogales to the Canadian border in Montana. But as I plan afterwards to visit family in Seattle, a modified route running from the Mexican border at Mexicali, to the Canadian port town of Victoria, was chosen instead.

Route planning revolves around biodiesel... Where can you get it?

And a few scenic views.

Yosemite

The Olympic Peninsula

Might as well enjoy the view!

Trip planning is well underway. The route will avoid all interstates and keep to scenic back roads. This is partly because interstates are boring - and because I don't plan on going anywhere fast. Average speed expected to be 45 - 55 mph.

Biodiesel stations have been located along the projected route and distances calculated. With an expected 700 miles per tank range, I only need a couple of stations! Still, I'm planning on stopping quite often for biodiesel so that there is always got plenty of fuel in the tank

Mostly, it's a camping trip, but I may sneak into a motel every now and then for a good hot shower and a comfortable bed; to say nothing of wireless access so I can upload stories and pictures!

I'm hoping to upload plenty of pictures and even video clips along the way.

DATE CHANGE: Last minute changes in engineering are driving the date back, sorry! I've rebuilt the back end of the bike removing panniers and installing a new mudguard. A manual fuel bypass has been installed.

Plus, a weekend was stolen to go diving in San Carlos; a very rare event has been taking place; whale shark, virtually unknown in the Baja, have been sighted around San Carlos. So taking a long shot, we decided to go down and see if we could see them... we did!

We spent 50 minutes snorkeling and diving with the largest pelagic fish in the world... it was incredible... now back to work!

New due date: August 23
